Bokamoso Holiday Art Programme for Spring-Break

Bokamoso Holiday Art Programme for Spring-Break

Are you looking for a fun and enriching Spring school-break activity for your children?

Register your child (ages 7–15) for an exciting week-long art experience at Bokamoso Holiday Art Programme happening at the Javett-UP,  06-10 October 2025.  Inspired by the Image Worlds/ World Images theme of the One and the Many exhibition, this Spring edition explores how pictures and images travel, get reused, remixed, and transformed — and how young people can use them to tell their own stories. During the week’s activities, pupils will explore the identity(narratives) of images, history, and memory, learning how images both conceal and reveal. It’s a week filled with creativity, imagination, and self-discovery!

FULL PROGRAMME

Day 1, Monday: Exhibition Tour, and Puzzle Style Art Creation
Kids start the week with an exciting guided tour of the exhibition, playing a Bingo-style game to spot artworks and details. The winners get first pick of puzzle-style art segments inspired by Trojan Horse, Election 94, and In Our Land – Mandela. Everyone decorates their chosen segment with colors, textures, and fun objects like beads and fabric. Each piece tells a personal story, but together they form one big, collaborative artwork. It’s a creative mix of teamwork and individual flair!

Day 2, Tuesday: Montage on Paper
Day two begins with reflecting on yesterday’s puzzle creations and the stories they explored. Kids create paper montages using archival images, magazine cutouts, and drawings to remix historical narratives into fresh new compositions. Older kids can experiment with more complex layering, while younger ones focus on colors and shapes. Finished montages are added to the puzzle segments from Day 1, linking personal stories to the larger collective artwork. The day ends with sharing reflections about the images and stories chosen.

Day 3,Wednesday: Montage Enriched with Texture & Material
Today, kids enrich their artworks with fabrics, beads, threads, paint, and even small sculptural elements. They explore how textures and layers can change the story or feeling of their pieces. Everyone gets to play freely with materials, deepening the visual and emotional impact of their puzzle or montage segments. The day finishes with a sharing circle, where kids talk about the textures and objects that made their art extra special.

Day 4,Thursday: Wallet Making (Archival Assemblage Creation )
Inspired by artist Stephané E. Conradie, kids will begin with sketching their ideas of how an everyday object, like a milk carton, might be transformed into a small, personal archive piece. Then, using clean milk cartons as the structural base, they will construct wallets; folded, segmented, functional forms, onto which they will layer doyle lace, fabrics, threads, image fragments, beads, and decorative items . As they decorate, they will reflect on the following questions: How does this everyday carton hold or carry value once adorned? and How do the materials (lace, images, found objects) help tell personal or family stories? Each pupil’s wallet becomes a tangible object where value placement and meaning making coexist. The session concludes with kids presenting their objects and explaining the stories behind their choices.

Day 5, Friday: One World Poster Making & Walkabout
The final day is all about showing off the week’s creations! Kids design A4/A3 posters that reflect their art motifs, colors, and stories. They set up a mini exhibition and act as curators, guiding peers and visitors through their artwork. Each child shares the meaning behind their imagery and textures. The programme wraps up with a reflection circle, celebrating the power of images, collective creativity, and personal expression.

The programme runs 9:00- 13:00 daily. Kids must be dropped off at 8:30am and be picked up at 13:00.
